“This sermon was graciously delivered by the Loard Buddha for the guidance of the Bhaddavaggiya princes.”
When the princes met the Buddha, instead of simply answering their question about the woman they were searching for, He gently asked them in return,
“Which is more noble—to search for another, or to search for oneself?”
Reflecting deeply, the princes of the Bhaddavaggiya clan replied,
“Venerable Sir, the noblest search is surely the search for oneself.”
As this dialogue unfolded, some of those princes—who had moments earlier been wandering in the forest in royal attire—attained the stage of Sotāpanna, while others became Anāgāmi. Through their conversation with the Buddha, their understanding of life and true purpose was profoundly transformed.
